Why Small Groups?

Love God, love people!
In order to Reproduce Authentic Christianity we must build authentic community within our church body.   Based on Matthew 22:37-40, we are to love God with all our heart, minds, and souls and love our neighbors as ourselves.
Using these verses as a guide for our small group structure,
we see small groups helping us reproduce authentic Christianity in our church attendees.

Intimacy with God.
“Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.”  Authentic Christianity is continually pursuing an intimate relationship with God.

Community with the church body.
        “Love your neighbor as yourself…”
“A person who is continuing to mature in his faith is meaningfully and regularly connecting with other believers.”

Community with the unchruched.
        “Love your neighbor as yourself…”
Build community with unbelieving friends for the purpose of seeing them saved.

Goals of SBC small groups

Feeling of Belonging
We want our regular attendees to connect relationally in smaller community groups because of the benefits to them and the rest of the body.  We want new people in our church to know how to connect to our body.

Shepherd/Leader Reproduction
Developing additional shepherds within our church increases the amount of love and care individual members feel.

Discipleship, Accountability & Mentorship
In small groups, this happens through the teaching, love, encouragement, and giftedness of each group member investing into eachothers lives.  Since we want to build community within the body, our goal is to see individual group members become mutually accountable to each other under the guidance and care of their small group leader.  We pray that through communities of small groups natural mentoring relationships will be formed not forced.
