What is our mission?
At SBC, we believe that kids are a part of the church of today. Our mission is guiding kids to love, serve and have faith in God which means we desire kids to actively pursue a relationship with God now. That is the heart and passion of KidQuest.

What do we mean by. . .
Guiding: We recognize that each child has to choose on their own to follow God and His Word. Guiding has the idea of leading as well as coming alongside of. It also describes the relationship between families and the dreamTEAM towards our target group: kids.

Love, Serve, Faith:
We don’t want kids to ‘just know God.’ We want God to be their best friend. A true love for God results in serving Him and others. Ultimately, we want kids to place their faith in God. Without faith it is impossible to please Him. These words are bigger than a mere profession of faith. It is about helping kids to passionately pursue God.

God:
If we guide kids to be like our savior Jesus, then they must have the same goal in mind. Jesus’ passion was to do the will of the Father. If Jesus’ passion was to pursue God’s will, we want to guide our kids to do the same.

Why KidQuest?
One of SBC’s core values is TEAM. In living that value out in our children’s ministry, we established a leadership team to oversee KidQuest that represented all areas of our children’s ministry. While discussing our mission and what we see God wanting us to teach kids, KidQuest was created.

What changed?
We changed our curriculum by developing our own for elementary age kids. This allows us to be more effective in meeting the needs of kids at SBC and be more effective in planning for those on the dreamTEAM. Our curriculum will focus on building a biblical foundation that results in pursuing God and serving others. This year focuses on the NT letters. The following years will focus on the life of Christ, and then the OT Story.

My kid loves Clubhouse! Will it be different?
From a kid’s point of view, there will not be a change in how we run our programs. We will still have worship, drama, games, and teaching of memory verses that we have previously had in Clubhouse.

What has not changed?
Our mission and ministry philosophy has not changed. That is why from a kid’s point of view, our children’s ministry will run the same.

What about Awana?
A key part of my ministry philosophy is getting programs to work together. Awana’s goal is to reach boys and girls with the Gospel of Christ and train them to serve Him. Wednesday nights are an opportunity for kids to put into practice what they are learning on Sunday, as well as train in new skills to live out God’s Word. The Sparks (K-2nd grade) and TNT (3rd-6th grade) counsel times will focus on the same content as KidQuest Clubhouse and Growth Groups.

I like the godly virtues concept. Will that continue?
Yes! A key part to learning is repetition. There are seven virtues that we feel are important for this generation to learn as they Reproduce Authentic Christianity. The virtues will be treated as an application of God’s Word rather than teach a different virtue each month. We want to focus on a few virtues that come up frequently in Scripture and help kids really understand and apply them to their life.

How are you planning on connecting parents with what children are learning?
There are three key things we are doing to help parents in disciple their kids:

We will continue to have Parents’ Day during the first Sunday of every month. Clubhouse is where we introduce the theme for the month.

We will continue to have Talk it up! available, these include lesson goals and discussion questions to help you interact with your child.

By having all age groups focusing on the same content this provides you an opportunity to discuss what your children are learning as a family.
